Swim Lesson FAQ

Swim Lesson

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How old does my child have to be to start swim lessons?

We recommend starting children in swim lessons as early as 6 months old!

  • What does my child need for swim lessons?

Students need to come to lessons wearing approriate swim attire, a towel and a swim cap (all ages)!

** We do not allow goggles until the Stingray Level!

  • When will my child pass their level?

Each of our levels has a set of skills that need to be achieved.  Your student will pass their level once they have mastered each skill at their respectice level!

  • Can parents come on deck to watch?

We do not allow parents on deck unless they are particpating in a class with their child.  There are many reasons for this but the most important reason is your childs attention.  They are going to be more attentive to what we are asking them to do when they do not have parents on deck.

While we do understand the water can be  a scary place for your child at first, we will allow very fearful children to be walked into the pool room with their parent but we ask that they leave once the instructor takes over.

**We do make special exceptions for various medical conditions.

  • How can I watch my child's swim lesson?

We have a program called Watch Me Grow.    It's a streaming video service which allows parents to observe their children's activities in the water through their mobile device.  Once a child is registered, an email with instructions is sent to the parent/guardian.

  • How many kids are in each class?

Each of our levels has a different instructor to student ratio.  This is due to the skills being learned in each class.    Here are our ratios:

    GUPPY: 8

    SEAHORSE: 8

    STARFISH: 3

    TURTLE: 4

    SEAHORSE: 5

    FROG: 6

    DOLPHIN: 6

  • What if I need to miss a class?

All excused absences are issued a makeup token that may be used for future classes.

An EXCUSED absence is one in which we were notified prior to the lesson (all done within your parent portal-at least 12+ hours prior.)

An UNEXCUSED absence is one in which we're not notified at least 12+ hours prior to the lesson.

In the event that class is cancelled by Super Splasher Aquatics for any reason, a token will be issued for GROUP classes and Appointments will be issued a credit.

Your token or credit issued due to cancellations on our part will not expire until you have used it.

Group lesson makeups can be redeemed only if you are an active student.

  • Can my child learn to swim after one session?

Children learn at all different rates.  We have seen students pass a level in one session and we have others pass after several.    There are several factors that go into your child's learnin process.

Something you can do to help them learn faster to bring them to the pool to reinforce what they are learning.

  • What is the difference between a session and a lesson?

I lesson is one class.  A session is  a group of classes.  Most of our group sessions are 8 lessons.

  • How long is a lesson?

Most lessons we offer are 30 minutes.  We have found that it's the ideal amount of time to keep the attention span of most children.

  • Why don't you allow goggles before Stingray?

Goggle dependency is not something beneficial for children.  From day one we teach them there is already water in our eyes and it's important to learn how to swim with exposing our eyes to the water.   Dependency is dangerous.  (Our owner has personally saved two children who were strong swim team members but had goggle dependency and jumped into deep water without their goggles.  Panic set in and they were not able to get themseves to safety)!

  • Why can’t my child wear the mask/nose covering goggles?

There are several reasons for this including:

    • It's much harder to see a kids facial expressions when they wear these, so it could delay the time before we can rescue them incase they panic.
    • Speaking of panic, as a reflex, we often try to breathe through our nose, and not being able to because of those masks might lead to an unnecessary panic.
    • They are much harder to remove if ever we need do to cpr. Noseplugs are much easier to just cut off/ yank off but those masks could also delay the treatment if needed.
  • How do I know if a class is cancelled?

We have a lot of ways to communicate with parents.  Sometimes it is easy for parents to suspect classes may be cancelled but that is not alwasy the case.  We will contact via email, text and post to social media outlets.  If your student is active, please make sure you receive emails and texts.  This is a setting that can be updated in your customer portal!

  • Why isn't your water 90 degrees?

The ARC currently references the Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) guidelines for water temperature stating “a comfortable water temperature for swim classes is between 83° to 86°F (28.3° to 30°C)”.  We feel that children should learn to swim in water that is closer to that of most other pools.   Our pool is kept betwen 83 and 86 degrees depending on the time of year!

It's very rare for a child to 'fall' into 90 degree water.
